The collection consists of correspondence between Nathan Atkinson Brown and his family, 1859-1913. The letters were written while Brown served with the 26th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company B at Saint Simons and Cumberland Islands, and regard stress the war was placing on planters in southeast Georgia, slavery, and race relations. J.B. Stoner, a Georgia native, was a prominent member of the Ku Klux Klan, the segregationist National States' Rights Party, and founder of the Stoner Christian Anti-Jewish Party. In 1977, Stoner was indicted, and was later convicted and imprisoned, for the 1958 bombing of Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He ran for numerous public offices including governor of Georgia in 1970. This collection contains Stoner's gubernatorial campaign poster and a flier for a 1974 meeting of the National States' Rights Party.

There are also numerous items dealing with Koinonia community, including the Safeway Scandal, insurance claims and racial violence. The collection also includes the original Koinonia commitment and the Coroner's Report on Clarence Jordan's death. The Walter Stovall Papers primarily contains letters documenting the response of friends, family, and the general public to the marriage of Walter Stovall to Charlayne Hunter in 1963. Ms. Hunter became famous as one of the two African American students to integrate the University of Georgia. Stovall and Hunter met at the University of Georgia as journalism students. The papers include correspondence and printed materials (periodicals and clippings) directly related to the marriage as well as articles related to more general Civil Rights issues such as the Civil Rights Act, 1964. The papers also contain a small number of letters written by Charlayne Hunter Stovall and Walter Stovall to his parents detailing the birth of their daughter, Susan.

The Moore's Ford Memorial Committee was founded in 1997 to commemorate and reconcile the 1946 Moore's Ford lynching, in which two African American couples were murdered by a white mob at the Moore's Ford bridge in Walton County, GA. The collection contains the committee's administrative and financial records, event planning files, files on the FBI and GBI investigations into the lynching and other incidents of racial violence, and documentation of the committee's support for restorative justice and reconciliation.

The collection consists of papers of George Wagner from 1862-1868 and includes diaries, correspondence, official reports, and military documents. The bulk of the material pertains to Wagner's service in the Veteran Reserve Corps with the Freedman's Bureau in Georgia from 1866-1868. Written during this period, the diaries describe Wagner's daily duties as an officer with the Bureau, political activities in Georgia during Reconstruction, and problems between the freedmen and whites. The collection also includes monthly reports sent from Americus, Columbus, and Griffin, Georgia by Wagner to Bureau headquarters in Washington, D.C. detailing supplies and clothing issued to Freedman. Additional materials pertain to Wagner's service with the 110th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, the Invalid Corps, and the Indiana Confederate prison, Camp Morton.

The S. Ernest Vandiver, Jr. Papers consist of office files and personal papers including correspondence, speeches, press releases, reports from state agencies, news stories, editorials, photographs, and scrapbooks from Vandiver's career as governor of Georgia (1959-1963), lieutenant governor of Georgia (1955-1958), lawyer, and from his post-career years. There are also materials related to Vandiver's campaign activities, including his campaign for governor of Georgia in 1966 and for the United States Senate in 1972. Series I. Governor's Office Files, 1959-1962, contains Vandiver's unofficial papers. His official gubernatorial papers are located at the Georgia Department of Archives and History in Atlanta, Georgia.

This collection includes clippings, correspondence, genealogical files, articles, notes, interviews, transcripts, photographs, and writings, gathered by Joan Titus, relating to Lillian Smith's life and legacy. The correspondence relates to Laural Falls Camp, South Today, Lillian Smith's publications and events, and letters received by Joan Titus regarding Smith. There are several folders of audience reaction cards from screenings of Miss Smith of Georgia from 1964 and 1966. Also included in this collection are interviews conducted by Joan Titus in March 1962 with Atlanta civic and political leaders, including Ivan Allan, William Hartsfield, Martin Luther King, Jr., Lorimer Douglas Milton, and Reverend Williams Holmes Borders, regarding African American business leaders. Also in March 1962, Titus interviewed Dr. Robert Coles, a child psychiatrist, about the effect of school desegregation on children. Excerpts of the Coles interview were used in Time-Life's radio program "The Children Should be Heard".

The bulk of the material centers on Mrs. Talmadge's work with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Board of Education, but the collection also includes personal correspondence and material relating to the Talmadge and Erwin families. The collections includes correspondence pertaining to the controversy which arose from DAR racial policies in the wake of the Marian Anderson incident, and material relating to issues facing the Georgia Board of Education during the 1950s including banning of textbooks and integration.
